I have been associated for six years now with an excellent and dedicated organization in Nassau, called the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN). The league gives young Bahamians (male and female) a chance to learn the game of baseball, have a great time with friends, engage in some amazing competition, and generally learn life lessons in a supportive and organized environment.

You might be surprised at the level of athletic talent that exists in this country. Just a few Bahamian athletes who have made their mark: Rick Fox and Mychael Thompson, formerly of the LA Lakers; Devard Darling of the Baltimore Ravens; Andre Rogers, formerly of the Chicago Cubs; Mark Knowles from professional tennis; Olympic gold-medalists in the women's relay: Eldece Clark-Lewis, Chandra Sturrup, Pauline Davis, Sevatheta Fynes, and Debbie Ferguson; Olympic medal sailor Sir Durward Knowles.
And there are others, all from a country with a population of only 300,000.
We have started a website for the league at www.bahamasbaseball.com and have posted photos, and all sorts of other information on the league and games. Next season, thanks to the folks at Securenet, a local Internet Service Provider, we will have a wireless connection at the concession stand that will allow us to stream video, and provide up-to-the-minute scores, and do other great things.
Keep an eye out for those Bahamian athletes. You just never know where they will pop up next!
