It pains me to do this, but I must leave you for a few days.

Friday is Labour Day here in the Bahamas, and Monday is Whit Monday. This means we have a four-day weekend, brilandwhich I fully intend to exploit. So, it's off to Harbour Island.

In fact, the Bahamas is an interesting place because it celebrates--officially or unofficially--the national holidays of three different countries: Bahamas, United States, and Great Britain. Ask most Bahamians what each of these holidays actually commemorates, however, and you'll probably hear that Labour Day is a tribute to new mothers, while Whit Monday was established to honor a British guy named "Whit." He was born on a Monday.

Other than the usual parades that clog the already-narrow streets of Nassau with hundreds of t-shirted school kids and large flat-bed trucks with mountains of black speakers blaring out Calypso music, other activities this weekend include the National Baseball relaxinTournament at the Freedom Farm fields at the corner of Fox Hill and Yamacraw Roads. It’s worth checking out if you have the time.

I’ll be hangin' in Briland.
