In case you didn't know this, the Bahamas has actually produced some famous people, and not just been a place for famous people to go. The following are Bahamian by birth, or heritage, or association:

Al Roker, from the Today Show.

Sidney Poitier. From Cat Island. (Presumably there used to be a lot of cats there.)

Lenny Kravitz, rock musician. His mother was Roxy Roker, who is Bahamian and played on the tv sitcom The Jeffersons. Roker is a pretty common Bahamian name. Most come from Exuma.

Rick Fox, formerly with the LA Lakers and recently with your tv screen.

Andre Rogers, former major league baseball player for the Chicago Cubs.

Devard Darling, wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens.

Mark Knowles, world-ranked tennis player (doubles).

Sebastian Bach, former lead singer for a heavy metal band that I cannot remember the name of. (Neither he nor his parents are Bahamian, but he grew up in Freeport.)

Sir Sean Connery. He's not Bahamian either, but I couldn't resist putting his name here. He's lived in Lyford Cay for years.

Several of the James Bond movies were also filmed here in the Bahamas. The newest film, Casino Royale is also being filmed here right now, and was recently blogged about by Alex on www.glitzblog.com.

I believe her exact words were: "Daniel Craig and co-star Eva Green will appear naked - the first time ever for a Bond."
